The St. Louis Rams 2014 Free Agent Signings Analysis

The St. Louis Rams do enough in the off season to win the NFC South?  The St. Louis Rams in-depth analysis of the free agents signed and players lost for the 2014 NFL season. Will these additions help The St. Louis Rams turn around their 2013 season and win the NFC South in 2014?

The St. Louis Rams had two picks in the first round and used them wisely rather than trading up and down. Read my article on how they did in the draft, 2014 St. Louis Rams NFL Draft Report Card and Player Analysis. The immediate impact from T Greg Robinson and DT Aaron Donald will be felt from the first game. The St. Louis Rams finished the 2013 season with a 7-9 record mainly because of an early season ending injury to QB Sam Bradford. I expect Bradford to fully recover and help the Rams better their record for 2014. The addition of WR Kenny Brit is a risk move and I think I doesn't work out. The Rams really needed to get a premiere WR and I am kinda shocked they didn't do that with pick #13, but that can be explained if they had WR Odell Beckham as the highest pick and the Giants ruined their plans. I had The St. Louis Rams taking FS Calvin Pryor with the 13th pick in my mock and you can see those results here as well, 2014 NFL Draft Results and Grades for Each Team for Round 1. The highlight of the 2013 season was the emergence of RB Zac Stacy and the glimpses of star-power shown by WR Tavon Austin. The Rams lost 6 free agents this year with Kellen Clemens being the most confusing. He had a good year considering and to trade back-up QBs basically for 12th year veteran Shaun Hill seems like a mistake.

  • Mike McNeill, TE--3rd season, signed by The Carolina Panthers

  • Shelley Smith, G--4th season, signed by The Miami Dolphins

  • Darian Stewart, SS--4th season, signed by The Baltimore Ravens

  • Chris Williams, G--6th season, signed by The Buffalo Bills

Players signed in free agency from other teams

  • Kenny Britt, WR--5th season, signed from The Tennessee Titans

  • Alex Carrington, DE--4th season, signed from The Buffalo Bill

  • Shaun Hill, QB--12th season, signed from The Detroit Lions

  • T.J. Moe, WR--Rookie, signed from The New England Patriots

Can St. Louis Rams make it to the playoffs in 2014?

I don't think they have enough to be competitive for the 2014 season. I see them duplicating their record or maybe getting an extra win and getting to .500. The Rams have tried almost every year to get a real #1 receiver and just can't seem to find the right guy. They stayed away from WR DeSean Jackson and other high profile free agents and that seemed strange. Being only $5 million under not counting the $3 million credit for CB Cortland Finnegan joining the Dolphins shines the spotlight that GM Snead has been too generous with the contracts he offers. If the Rams don't make it above .500, I would welcome a change in the front office.
