The San Francisco 49ers 2014 Free Agent Signings Analysis

The San Francisco 49ers do enough in the off season to win the NFC West?  The San Francisco 49ers in-depth analysis of the free agents signed and players lost for the 2014 NFL season. Will these additions help The San Francisco 49ers win the NFC West and make it back to the Super Bowl in 2014?

The San Francisco 49ers finished again in the 2013 out of the money. A lucky play by the Seahawks ended their run and I fully expect them to be in the playoffs again. I didn't think the 49ers had a strong draft. I thought it was three good picks in the first three rounds, Jimmie Ward, Carlos Hyde, and Marcus Martin. After that they chose all the injured players and that confused me. Seems like to me the 49ers got fat all these years having all these picks and go a bit sloppy. Read my article, 2014 San Francisco 49ers NFL Draft Report Card and Player Analysis and see where they went wrong for me. The 49ers lost more than they signed but it won't even be noticed with their combined draft choices and free agent signings.

Players lost in the off season to other teams

Players signed in free agency from other teams

  • Antoine Bethea, SS--8th season, signed from The Indianapolis Colts

  • Chris Cook, CB--4th season, signed from The Minnesota Vikings

Can The San Francisco 49ers make it to the playoffs in 2014?

One more year of QB Colin Kaepernick, maturing with a healthy WR Michael Crabtree gives the San Francisco 49ers a real good shot at improving their 12-4 record and beating the Seahawks in the playoffs. The draft pick of SS Jimmie Ward and the signing of Antoine Bethea more than make up for the loss of Donte Whitner. CB Chris Cook signing coupled with the transition of SS Jimmie Ward to cornerback allows CB Dontae Johnson to be transitioned to Strong Safety. Lots of movement happening in the San Francisco secondary which will make the first few games of the season especially important that all the new pieces fit and play well together. They lost two of their leaders in their secondary and remains to be seen if they find the new breed of leaders RB Carlos Rogers will be an awesome addition taking some of the workload off RB Frank Gore. I like the 49ers finishing a strong 12-4 again and this year winning the NFC West and going back to the Super Bowl.
