The Houston Texans do enough in the off season to win the AFC South? The Houston Texans in-depth analysis of the free agents signed and players lost for the 2014 NFL season. Will these additions help The Houston Texans turn around their 2013 season and win the AFC South in 2014?
The Houston Texans finished a laughable 2013 season at 2-12. he year started off promising with two wins and then came he massive slide into the abyss. Costing 8th year coach Gary Kubiak his job as well as a pas his prime time Wade Phillips his job at defensive coordinator. The new year brought former Bill Belichick disciple and Penn State coach, Bill O'Brien as the new head coach and also gave the Texans the #1 draft pick which they rightfully used on DE Jadeveon Clowney. Read about my thoughts on the rest of the Texans draft, 2014 Houston Texans NFL Draft Report Card and Player Analysis.
Lots vested in these player moves
Three stud players drafted besides Clowney that will immediately help the Texans forget the 2013 season are: Guard Xavier Su'a-Filo, TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, NT Louis Nix. He Texans overhauled their entire team, releasing 14 players and signing only 6. They replaced E Owen Daniels with draft pick TE C.J. Fiedorowicz. RB Andre Brown will replace Ben Tate and be a better change of pace RB since he can catch well and works in the flat better. DT Ricardo Matthews and NT Jerrell Powe will try and make up for the losses of NT Earl Mitchell and DE Antonio Smith with the help of Jadeveon Clowney. SS Chris Clemons and FS Kendrick Lewis are to fill the place of SS Danieal Manning and add some depth. The Texans seem to be in a much better place than last year and will rely on Ryan Fitzpatrick to serve as QB and make people forget that Schaub was recycled o the Oakland Raiders after a horrible season filled with a ton of INTs. Drafted QB Tom Savage may be on the field sooner than expected as he fits the mold of what O'Brien likes in a pocket passing QB.

Can The Houston Texans make it to the playoffs in 2014?
I actually do think the Texans have a strong chance at making a run for the playoffs in 2014. Not many teams can turnaround a season in one year but the Eagles did it last year with the arrival of new coach Chip Kelly, so it is possible. The Texans look to be fierce on the defensive side of the ball and if the Texans can play from ahead they will win 10 games and that should be enough to at least get a wild card game.
