Mike McCoy who was born on April 1, 1972 in San Francisco, California. He is the Head Coach for the San Diego Chargers and has been coaching in the NFL since 2000.

Facts #1:


Mike McCoy played QB for California State University at Long Beach. He redshirted his freshman year, starting five games but playing eight total. He compiled 938 yards passing going 87 for 165 with 7 TDs and 3 INTs. C.S.U. At K Long Beach discontinued their football program and McCoy was forced to transfer to the University of Utah where he was a back up.

Mike McCoy brightest hour at the University of Utah was at the Freedom Bowl where he threw a TD pass in the final minute to give Utah a 3-point win over the University of Arizona.



Facts #3:


Mike McCoy was not drafted in the 1995 NFL draft but was signed as a free agent by the Denver Broncos but never made it to the regular season getting cut during the preseason. Two months later, the Green Bay Packers signed him to their practice squad due to an injury to QBs Bret Favre and backup Ty Detmer.

Mike McCoy played two years in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders and one year with the Amsterdam Admirals in the European league.

Mike McCoy got his firs NFL coaching job with the Carolina Panthers. He stayed with the team 8 years and worked his way from the Offensive Assistant to the Wide Receiver Coach to finally QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.

Mike McCoy was hired by the Denver Broncos in 2009 to be their QB coach and Offensive Coordinator. His first year saw the Broncos ranked 7th in passing with QB Kyle Orton shattering all of his own personal season records and Orton finished the year ranked 4th in passing yards.

Mike McCoy in 2011 had to totally re-change the offense after week 5 when an ineffective QB Kyle Orton was benched for Heisman trophy winner, Tim Tebow. In 2011, The Denver Broncos made the AFC Division game losing to the New England Patriots but the Broncos were ranked firs in the NFL in rushing yards.

Mike McCoy at the end of the 2012 was courted by five teams to be their next new coach. They were the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and the San Diego Chargers who McCoy chose.

Mike McCoy on January 15,2013 was announced as the Head Coach of the San Diego Chargers. He is the second youngest coach in franchise history and the 2nd youngest active head coach in the NFL.



Facts #10:


Mike McCoy first season ended with a playoff berth and the 6th seeded team in the NFL. His was the first time since the Chargers made the playoffs since 2009. The Chargers finished 9-7 with a reinvigorated QB Philip Rivers.
