Mike McCoy played QB for California State University at Long Beach. He redshirted his freshman year, starting five games but playing eight total. He compiled 938 yards passing going 87 for 165 with 7 TDs and 3 INTs. C.S.U. At K Long Beach discontinued their football program and McCoy was forced to transfer to the University of Utah where he was a back up.

Mike McCoy brightest hour at the University of Utah was at the Freedom Bowl where he threw a TD pass in the final minute to give Utah a 3-point win over the University of Arizona.

Mike McCoy was not drafted in the 1995 NFL draft but was signed as a free agent by the Denver Broncos but never made it to the regular season getting cut during the preseason.
