The Jacksonville Jaguars 2014 Free Agent Signings Analysis

The Jacksonville Jaguars do enough in the off season to win the AFC South?  The Jacksonville Jaguars in-depth analysis of the free agents signed and players lost for the 2014 NFL season. Will these additions help The Jacksonville Jaguars turn around their 2013 season and win the AFC South in 2014?

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished stronger than they started in 2013 but still ended the season compiling a 4-12 season. So many issues have surrounded the Jaguars ability to get any traction. I thought the draft was a huge mistake and won't help them in their 2014 turnaround but they did sign some good players in the free agency. In my eyes that would make them bi-polar. Read my article, 2014 Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Draft Report Card & Pick Analysis and see why GM Dave Caldwell failed on draft day choosing QB Blake Bortles with the #3 draft pick.

Impact free agency will play in the Jacksonville Jaguars 2014 season

Losing both RBs was offset by the signing of RB Toby Gerhart. The understudy for Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, Gerhart showed flashes of why he can carry the load being a starting back. Drafting RB Storm Johnson also could be be the steal of the draft and replace RB Justin Forsett. Adding three Defensive Ends will immediately upgrade a porous defense and seal the edges. Guard Zane Beadles will upgrade the line and give QB Henne or QB Bortles some time to find new WR Marqise Lee which could help their passing attack. GM Caldwell had o do something with the suspension of WR Justin Blackmon and succeeded getting WR Lee. But imagine if he took WR Sammy Watkins at the #3 pick and then drafted QB Tom Savage in the later rounds. The Jaguars would have gotten a franchise QB and two star wide receivers.

Players lost in the off season to other teams

  • Justin Forsett, RB--6th season, signed by The Baltimore Ravens

  • Maurice Jones-Drew, RB--8th season, signed by The Oakland Raiders

  • Taylor Price, WR--4th season, signed by The Seattle Seahawks

Players signed in free agency from other teams

  • Zane Beadles, G--4th season, signed from The Denver Broncos

  • Red Bryant, DE--6th season, signed from The Seattle Seahawks

  • Chris Clemons, DE--10th season, signed from The Seattle Seahawks

  • Tandon Doss, WR--3rd season, signed from The Baltimore Ravens

  • Bradie Ewing, FB--3rd season, signed from The Atlanta Falcons

  • Toby Gerhart, RB--4th season, signed from The Minnesota Vikings

  • Ziggy Hood, DE--5th season, signed from The Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Dekoda Watson, LB--4th season, signed from The Jacksonville Jaguars

Can The Jacksonville Jaguars make it to the playoffs in 2014?

No, I don't think it's possible for them to make such a giant leap bu I do see them possibly making it to 8-8 and achieving a .500 season which for them is a huge improvement in the last six seasons only accomplishing a .500 record one time. Maybe GM Caldwell is right choosing Blake Bortles but why make all the signings and then use the #3 pick for a project QB that by all analysis will need some time riding the bench before he is ready. I would been a lot happier with WR Sammy Watkins than Bortles and considering next year's QB draft class looks promising, they could have waited.
