Will Amir Khan Dethrone “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather in September 2014?

Who Will Floyd Mayweather Fight September 2014?

Floyd Mayweather won a tough decision against Marcos Maidana on Saturday May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Fighting on that under-card and easily winning by a unanimous decision was Amir Khan. 10-year junior to Mayweather and paralleling the career of Mayweather's, he is the logical choice to face Floyd. But logic rarely prevails in professional boxing.

Will the best fighter please sit down

The boxing world is a political beast and a money machine and seldom does that mean The Champ fights the best contender. His advisers would never let a fight happen if there was a remote chance he could lose regardless of payday. There is just too much money to lose gambling against evenly matched, younger challengers.

Perfect time for Khan to fight, not so perfect for Mayweather

Amir Khan has looked good at the 147 pound weight. Hasn't looked any slower and still brought the power knocking Luis Collazo to the mat three times lop-siding the judges' scorecards. Floyd on the other hand has looked slower and rarely finishes a fight anymore, so a lack of power is evident. He fought, arguably his toughest fight against Maidana in a long time and it showed on the judges' scorecards and around both eyes of Mayweather. Floyd didn't look like himself early and seemed only to turn it on in the later rounds after trailing on most ringside scorecards. Maidana did the unthinkable, landing only 9 less punches than the Champ and more than the last 38 boxers who Floyd fought according to Compubox.

Amir Khan vs. Floyd Mayweather?

Unfortunately for us fight fans, this fight is not happening. Floyd's contract with Showtime calls for a September fight which leaves little argument that Amir Khan won't be fighting. Pakistan Aamir Khan is Muslim and he will not fight during the holy season of Ramadan. Floyd won't let an opponent dictate the time or place of a fight Showtime won't postpone. So no way this fight happens. Khan, since moving up weight classes, has plenty of quality fighters to keep him occupied and the fans interested so this isn't the end of the world for boxing.

Mayweather will fight who?

Floyd will have a rematch with Maidana. The fight was too close to really say who won. Showtime, Floyd and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer knows the Pay per view will be record setting. One thing we know about Mayweather is he likes money, his other nickname reminds us of that. Floyd is also in the market to buy the L.A. Clippers from Donald Sterling and this fight could pay for some of that expense.
One thing we do know is Floyd Mayweather won't be fighting Manny Pacquiao.
