Gun Ownership in the United States
As of July, 2012, The United States is winning the race. The Race on GUN OWNERSHIP! As reported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC), U.S. gun ownership rate is 87 guns per 100 citizens. The U.S. Population is 310 million and there are 270 million guns in the country, making us #1 with the most weapons on earth and a 35% stockpile of the world's weapons. That is almost one gun per one person, regardless of age or gender, including children. Beyond insanity!!!
BLOOD STATS
Each year roughly, 30,000 people die from bullets and every year over 100,000 people suffer gun shot wounds as reported by the Violence Policy Center. This isn't a phenomena. It's a statistical reality after they compiled the Gun shooting data, fatal and non-fatal from 200-2008. Anyone amazed at these figures? Anyone want to wager, these statistics have just increased since that study?
September 11, 2001 vs One year in America
There were 2,996 deaths on 9/11 and we were filled with rage at the perpetrators and we sought justice. There wasn't a person in the country who didn't want immediate, remorseless revenge. There wasn't any person that wasn't outrageously outraged. Yet, we do nothing when faced with 10x that amount of death and 30x that amount of injury from firearm. We do nothing but stand on a soapbox and say it is our right to bear arms. Where is that same emotion from 9/11 about the 30,000 who died in a hail of bullets on Main street U.S.A. And that 70k injured that lay recovering in a hospital bed. Are we not outraged with the overcrowding and under supply of hospital beds and doctors that we ignore the reason 70k rooms are occupied every year restoring the health to a gunshot victim. The politicos say nothing cause they are PAC dependent on the gun manufacturers and lobbyists and don't want to spoil their chance at a 30 year "do nothing" career in Washington. And other morons think firing a AR-15 at a gun range is fun and within the scope of the 2nd amendment.
My Opinion:
First, we need to revisit two important cornerstones of America:
- The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
- The Declaration of Independence Preamble: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal , that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
The Declaration of Independence was created before the U.S. Constitution. The Declaration has never been amended or challenged in the Supreme Court as cited by Constitution and Separation of Church and State. All experts agree that the U.S. Constitution is a "living" document that needs to be interpreted and amended as the United States evolves to remain relevant to the present, giving birth to the Supreme Court of the United States(SCOTUS), to resolve those questions of law. So, with all this is mind, it is only logical to conclude that the Declaration is dominant to the Constitution and trumps it's legality like federal law is dominant to state law. The Declaration is the first document in this country's existent. It is the birth document of organic law and all other laws flow from it. It is the Mother of all documents. No other document can exist in opposition to it or it would in it's very nature be in violation of organic law.
The argument
With all that being understood, I argue that today's gun policies as dictated in the 2nd amendment is subservient to the preamble truths that Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness are unalienable rights, therefore the 2nd amendment is an illegal amendment in violation of any shooting victims life, pursuit of happiness and liberty. Every citizen's life is an unalienable right so the taking of it is an illegal act and therefore in direct conflict with the preamble of the Declaration of The United States. Those people that have been shot and/or killed had their unalienable rights violated and the U.S. abetted those shooting by not repealing the 2 nd amendment.
Are we trailblazing for change
Throughout history, Amendments have been enacted and repealed so this isn't ground breaking. Dropping the hammer on the gun manufacturers and taking the guns out of the hands of most people will save lives immediately. Do we have to wait for another mass murder at a school, movie theater or military installation? People are getting comfortably numb to these rampages and soon will be tuning out and saying "it's just another rampage of a crazy person." Nothing to see here folks, keep moving. It has been proven that with an overabundance of the same stimuli, we become immune to the message, thus the reason companies are constantly coming up with new marketing campaigns.
Reasons why guns need to be made illegal
There are many reasons why guns should be outlawed like other civilized countries in Europe and Asia. Those reasons are the mass murders by guns at Columbine school, movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, Virginia Tech University, Sandy Hook elementary in Connecticut and a military installation in Ft. Hood in Texas where it has happened twice. Don't tell me that the U.S. is concerned about the safety of it's citizens when they use this argument to make steroids illegal when a lousy three people a year die as a result as cited by the Centers for Disease control in Atlanta. But they do nothing when 30k people die a year. They hold auto manufacturers responsible to produce safe vehicles that exceed requirements to save lives. They have never done anything to impede the gun manufacturers except to limit the capacity of gun magazines. They are quite fine with a maniac killing 10 people, but 16 deaths per magazine are just too many, thus the stipulation in magazine size. Ridiculous. Time for a change people. Back in the day, it was fine for people to be armed when people lived in the wilderness, where dirt roads were king, where electricity was invented 100 years later and bandits were rampant and law enforcement barely existed if at all. We no longer hunt for our meals and a AK-47 is just not for the homeowner.
