Public Golf Courses in Las Vegas Review

Las Vegas National Golf Course, TPC Las Vegas at Summerlin and Wolf Course at Paiute Golf Resort

Las Vegas is the tourist capital of the world, 40 million people visit for a vacation or a quick trip. Las Vegas is known for it's gambling, restaurants and nightclubs, but it is also home to some of the best golf courses in the country. I love golf and play it as often as I can. Having 6 months of mild weather affords me many opportunities to get in 18 holes. I don't belong to any private country clubs so I avail myself to the best public courses. The common thing both offer are a challenging day in the great outdoors chasing a little white ball around.

My Favorite public golf courses

Las Vegas National

Price: $60 for non residents of Clark County, $30 for residents.

Host to many PGA and LPGA professional events, it is a course that is rich in golf history, Tiger Woods got his first PGA tour win in 1999. The Las Vegas National was built in the early 1960s and is located a convenient 3 miles from the Las Vegas strip. It features a challenging 18 hole par 71 course with a few well placed water hazards and hazardous deep sand bunkers. The Las Vegas National course is lined with thousands of trees shading the course which is a welcome oasis from the hot desert sun. It's a 4.5 to 5 hour course so plan accordingly. There is the Rat Pack Grill for snacks and great burgers after playing and a refreshment stand at the 9th hole. Las Vegas National Golf Club also hosts first class weddings.

TPC Las Vegas

Price: $99 to $225 per person per round

An expensive day out by truly an amazing course located near Red Rock Canyon, 20 minutes west of the strip and located within the community of Summerlin. TPC Las Vegas at Summerlin is the premiere PGA course for tournaments. It is a challenging par 71 course that test all facets of your game. TPC Las Vegas offers a $100 Taxi and Limo credit from the strip help making this an affordable venue. The TPC Grille offers all meals starting from a great breakfast and lunch buffets, a snack menu to a full dinner menu.

Wolf Course at Paiute Golf Resort

Price: $99 to $159 with cart, no walking allowed

The longest golf course in Nevada, totaling over 7,600 yards, located on an Indian Reservation outside Las Vegas city limits. Accessible only by car so a rental is required if a tourist. Amazing landscape and the 15 th hole is an island hole making this a truly once in a lifetime playing experience. Wolf Course at Paiute Golf Resort is famous for it's severe uneven course terrain and alternate landing zones challenge the hard core golfer as intended by famous course designer Pete Dye. Offers a plush dining area and outdoor patio showcasing it's amazing landscape looking out at 10,00 feet high Sheep Mountains range. A seasonal menu gives a perfect option for Breakfast and Lunch. Paiute doesn't offer a dinner menu so, back to the strip you go. Have to settle for a 5 star meal at Picasso at Bellagio I guess.
